Bertha Cantrell

 service will be held Oct. 16 for Bertha Anna Cantrell of Monroe, who died Oct. 10 of age-related causes. She was 95.

Cantrell was born Aug. 28, 1907, in Sulfur, Okla., to James and Susie Folsom Carter. She married Floyd Cantrell in Pierce, Okla., on July 13, 1923. He died Nov. 22, 1986.

She lived in Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley,  from 1925 until 1943, when she settled in Monroe. She was a homemaker, and she enjoyed canning, sewing, quilting quilting, form of needlework, almost always created by women, most of them anonymous, in which two layers of fabric on either side of an interlining (batting) are sewn together, usually with a pattern of back or running (quilting) stitches that hold the layers  and gardening. She especially enjoyed reading her Bible. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Junction City.

Santa Rosa, city (1991 pop. 80,629), capital of La Pampa prov., central Argentina. It is a modern city and road junction surrounded by a rich agricultural and cattle-raising area.
, Calif., Floyd Jr., of Redding Redding, city (1990 pop. 66,462), seat of Shasta co., N central Calif., on the Sacramento River; inc. 1872. A principal tourist center for a mountain and lake region, it also has lumbering, food-processing, and diverse manufacturing. , Calif., and Kenneth of Philomath; a daughter, Betty Hebert of Carson, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Two daughters died previously, Ruth Snelgrove in 1994 and Eula Corbin in 2001.

Wednesday's service will be held at 2 p.m. at Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City. Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Pentecostal Church in Monroe.

Barbara Howard

The funeral will be held Oct. 13 for Barbara Jean Howard B. Ernestine Mahoney (October 13, 1910]] - March 20, 2000) was an American actress.

A former Ziegfeld girl and a Goldwyn Girl, Howard studied photography at the Los Angeles Art Center.

Howard was born Jan. 30, 1955, in Oxnard, Calif., to Orland and Marie Stockdal Howard. She graduated from South Eugene High School South Eugene High School is a public high school located in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It was founded as Eugene High School around 1900, and was located at Willamette Street and West 11th Avenue in a brick building that later served as Eugene's city hall.  in 1973 and attended the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities. .

She worked as director of Honolua Preschool on Maui.

Howard is remembered for her devotion to her children and her many friends. Her interests included arts, crafts, making leis and cultivating tropical flowers and plants. She also was involved in her daughters' activities.

She received various honors acknowledging her commitment to preschool education preschool education: see kindergarten; nursery school.

Survivors include her parents of Eugene; two daughters, Jessica Bartolome and Casey Bartolome, both of Lahaina; a brother, William Howard of Boulder, Colo.; and three sisters, Beverly Schlichter of Castle Rock, Colo., Laraine Bowker of Eugene, and Linda Howard of Dallas, Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului, Hawaii. Sunday's service will be at 7:30 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Wailuku, Hawaii.

Franklin Johnson

SPRINGFIELD - A private family service will be held for Franklin Junior Johnson of Springfield, who died Oct. 9 of pneumonia. He was 79.

Johnson was born April 24, 1923, in Tracy, Ky., to Franklin and Dona Berry Johnson. He married Elnora Shepherd in Dayton, Ohio, on July 3, 1948. She died Jan. 27, 1998.

He grew up in Scottsville, Ky., and graduated from high school in Dayton, Ohio. He served in the Army and was stationed in Italy during World War II. He returned to Dayton after the war and worked as a maintenance supervisor at Sunshine Bakery for 35 years. He lived in Eugene from 1980 until 1987, when he settled in Springfield. He worked as a caretaker until early this year.

His interests included cars, and he enjoyed farming and gardening. He was a member of the U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars in Springfield.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosemarie Johnson of Eugene and Brenda Stephenson of Springfield; and seven grandchildren.

Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Stafford

A memorial service will be held Oct. 26 for Virginia Lee Stafford of Eugene, who died Oct. 8 of cancer and emphysema emphysema (ĕmfĭsē`mə), pathological or physiological enlargement or overdistention of the air sacs of the lungs. A major cause of pulmonary insufficiency in chronic cigarette smokers, emphysema is a progressive disease that commonly . She was 59.

Stafford was born Sept. 28, 1943, in Sapulpa, Okla., to Howard and Irene McGinty Stafford.

Before moving to Eugene in 1989, she lived in Fremont, Oakland and Alameda, Calif. She earned certification in vocational training and rehabilitation through San Francisco State University     [ .

Stafford worked 23 years as a vocational trainer with handicapped and autistic autistic /au·tis·tic/ (aw-tis´tik) characterized by or pertaining to autism.  people.

Her interests included traveling. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading the Bible.

Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Mendell of Veneta; a brother, Bill Stafford of Arnold, Calif.; a sister, Wilma Stafford of Modesto, Calif.; and one grandchild.

The Oct. 26 service will be held at 1 p.m. at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene.

Joseph Abinanti

A memorial service will be held Oct. 18 for Joseph I. Abinanti of Eugene, who died Oct. 9 of Parkinson's disease Parkinson's disease or Parkinsonism, degenerative brain disorder first described by the English surgeon James Parkinson in 1817. When there is no known cause, the disease usually appears after age 40 and is referred to as Parkinson's disease. . He was 79.

Abinanti was born June 2, 1923, in New Orleans to Peter and Catherine Abinanti. He was married to Naomi Rube until her death in 1972. He married Sharon Cornutt in Eureka, Calif., on Feb. 14, 1974.

He grew up in San Francisco. He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a civil engineer for the California Department of Transportation The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is a government agency in the U.S. state of California. Its mission is to improve mobility across the state. It manages the state highway system and is actively involved with public transportation systems in California. .

He raised his family in Arcata, Calif., and lived in San Diego and the Hood Canal area of Washington before settling in Eugene six years ago. He was a private pilot whose interests included deep sea fishing, woodworking and boat building.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Abby Abinanti of San Francisco; a son, Joe of Sparks, Nev.; three stepsons, Daniel Cornutt of Eugene, Dennis Cornutt of Helena, Mont., and David Cornutt of Portland; a sister, Antoinette West of Seal Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Friday's service will be held at 1 p.m. at the clubhouse at Summerfield Estates in Eugene.

Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.

John Barrett Jr.

The funeral will be held today, Oct. 12, for John Robert Barrett Jr., of McGehee, Ark., formerly of Eugene, who died Oct. 9 of congestive heart failure congestive heart failure, inability of the heart to expel sufficient blood to keep pace with the metabolic demands of the body. In the healthy individual the heart can tolerate large increases of workload for a considerable length of time. . He was 72.

Barrett was born Dec. 6, 1929, in Selma, Ark., to John Barrett Sr. and Marie Brown Barrett.

He graduated from high school and served in the Air Force during the Korean War Korean War, conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel into Soviet (North Korean) and U.S. (South Korean) zones of occupation. . He owned and operated Barrett's Parts & Supplies.

He was a member of the U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. . He also belonged to the Selma Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, John Barrett III of Junction City; a daughter, Tanya French of McGehee; three sisters, Dorothy Seamans of McGehee, Mary Barrett of Selma and Lucille Wood of Little Rock, Ark.; and three grandchildren.

Today's service will be held at 1 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello, Ark. Burial will be today at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello.

Timothy England

A memorial service will be held today, Oct. 12, for Timothy Paul England of Roseburg, formerly of Eugene, who died Oct. 7 at the age of 33. His family chose not to list the cause of death.

England was born July 13, 1969, in Eugene to Susan Shaw England.

He lived in Eugene and Drain before moving to Roseburg, where he worked as a school bus driver.

England was a Duck fan and he also enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his mother of Roseburg; a daughter, Janessa of Myrtle Point; a brother, Jr. of Glide; and three sisters, Cissie Gorby and Joanne Annett, both of Creswell, and Shelley Robinson of Roseburg.

Today's service will be held at 2 p.m. at the New Life Christian Center in Roseburg.

Taylor's Family Mortuary in Winston is in charge of arrangements.
