Wilfred Gerlits SPRINGFIELD - The funeral Mass will be Nov. 18 for Wilfred Francis Gerlits of Springfield, who died Nov. 14 of age-related causes. He was 82. He was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Edgewater, Colo., to Edward and Grace Hittner Gerlits. He served in the Marine Corps and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. He married Aileen Angele in Auburn, Wash., on Feb. 14, 1946. She died Feb. 28, 1979. He came to Oregon in 1925 and worked as a farmer and as a carpenter with the Lake County School District for 16 years. He moved to Springfield five years ago. He enjoyed snowmobiling and his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lakeview and of Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney. . He worked as a salesman for Valley Stationers. He enjoyed bowling, and bowled in six different leagues. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a Kiwanis member for more than 50 years. Tanner of Springfield, who died Nov. 13 of age-related causes. She was 94. Tanner was born June 15, 1908, in Walterville to Arthur and Debbie Campbell. She married Arthur Tanner in Seattle on March 20, 1948. She lived in Tampa, Fla., Topeka, Kan., and Vacaville, Calif., before moving to Springfield in 1958. She worked as a hairdresser in Eugene and as a clerk at the Broadway department store. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cooking, gardening, knitting, crocheting and traveling.
