He grew up in Kirby and moved to Springfield in 1940. Tolleson served in the Army during World War II. He worked for Georgia Pacific for 31 years and for Weyerhaeuser for seven years before retiring in 1982. In his younger years, Tolleson enjoyed square dancing, hunting, fishing and gardening. He then went to Ashland, where he attended grade school before moving to Klamath Falls in 1924. He lived there most of his life. He had lived in this area for 13 years.
