Wendell Bartholomew

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be held Feb. 4 for Wendell Bartholomew of Springfield, who died Feb. 1 of a stroke. He was 82.

He was born Feb. 20, 1920, in Springfield to Frank and Lillie McBee Bartholomew. He married Bernice Gilmour in Brookings in 1979. She died in September 1997.

He lived in Brookings, Grants Pass, Coos Bay Coos Bay (ks), city (1990 pop. 15,076), Coos co., SW Oreg., a port of entry on Coos Bay; founded 1854 as Marshfield, inc. 1874, renamed 1944.  and Northern California before moving back to Springfield in 1990. He worked as a farmer, mill superintendent, electrician and building inspector.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a past master of the Sidney Croft Lodge and also belonged to the Masonic Order and the Elks.

Tuesday's service will be at 2 p.m. at the New Life Center in Springfield. Rest-Haven Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Dick Bland

The funeral will be Feb. 4 for Dick Bland of Klamath Falls, formerly of Springfield, who died Jan. 31 of age-related causes. He was 93.

Bland was born Aug. 1, 1909, in Merlin to John and Anna Maude Bland. He married Vera Mae Case in Montesano, Wash., on June 3, 1937. She died previously.

He lived in Montesano and Valsetz before moving to Springfield in 1961. He began working for Southern Pacific Railroad "Southern Pacific" redirects here. For the country-rock band, see Southern Pacific (band)
The Southern Pacific Railroad (AAR reporting marks SP) was an American railroad.
 at the age of 14, and later went on to work in the logging business. He spent 10 years in the Philippines and Borneo working for Georgia Pacific International and retired from the company in 1974.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, hunting and fishing. He especially liked playing cards in Reno and Las Vegas. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite Temple The Scottish Rite Temple is located at 803 North 7th Street Trafficway in Kansas City, Kansas. The architect of the building was W. W. Rose. It was placed on the Kansas City, Kansas Historic Landmark on December 1, 1983.  and the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Jim of Klamath Falls; a sister, Margaret Wallen of Grants Pass; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A grandson, John, died previously.

Tuesday's service will be at 11 a.m. at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene with burial to follow.
