Joe Phillips, 69, owner of Blackhawk Sales Co., Rock Island, Illinois Rock Island is a city in Rock Island County, Illinois, United States. The population was 39,684 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Rock Island CountyGR6 , died in March. He was a 45-year member and past national director of AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System.

General James E. "Hoss" Cartwright, USMC, (born September 22, 1949) is the 8th and current Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
, 63, director of product development at Dalton Foundries (Advanced Cast Products Co.), Warsaw, Indiana, died in January. A national director of the AFS Class of 1993, Cartwright also served as director of the American Cast Metals Assn., the Iron Casting Society, and trustee of the Foundry Educational Foundation and the Iron Casting Research Institute. Before joining Dalton Foundries, Cartwright was president of The Electron Corp., Littleton, Colorado.

Richard Myers, 75, foundry consultant for Myers Consultant, Morganstown, West Virginia, died in February. A national director of the AES Class of 1998, Myers also served as chairman (1987-88) and director (1994-95) of the Pittsburgh Chapter. He formally retired in 1990 after 43 years of service, but remained a consultant for Aditech, Library, Pennsylvania.
