Obesity Management Journal Will Help Physicians Treat Obesity as a Disease.

LARCHMONT, N.Y. -- "OBESITY MANAGEMENT, a new medical journal to be published in September, will enable physicians and healthcare professionals to maximize the management of overweight patients," said Mary Ann Liebert, publisher and CEO of Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. publishers (www.liebertpub.com). "Medicare's designation of obesity as an illness is an acknowledgment of the urgent imperative to stop the obesity epidemic, which currently numbers nearly 130 million people in the U.S. and many millions more around the globe."

"Obesity is a complicated illness," said Mrs. Liebert, "and the comorbidity factors such as diabetes, heart problems and arthritis are well recognized. Overweight people, especially those who are morbidly obese, need oversight by a knowledgeable physician or healthcare professional, who can help them develop a program that works and to oversee the ongoing weight management process. This is the only journal for clinicians with this mandate."

Each issue of OBESITY MANAGEMENT will provide practice-oriented information and resources. According to Editor-in-Chief, James O. Hill, Ph.D., University of Colorado Health Science Center, "There is currently no journal that provides practical information to help healthcare professionals with weight management. OBESITY MANAGEMENT will provide information and tools that can be quickly absorbed and immediately used by physicians and nurses who deal with overweight and obese patients."
