Oakland Design Firm Wins Prestigious Lighting Award for Napa Valley's Far Niente Winery.

 Visual Planners, Oakland, Calif. were recently named winners of the 1997 GE Edison Award The Edison Award is the oldest and most prestigious Dutch Music Prize, presented since 1960. It has a grand history in TV-shows through the years, including the legendary broadcasts called Grand Gala du Disque (later Disc).  for excellence in lighting design for what General Electric Called "painting a stunning landscape with light" for the Far Niente Winery in Oakville.

Now, Far Niente will honor these lighting designers at a reception at the winery on Friday, Aug. 21.

This international prize, the equivalent of the Academy Awards of the lighting world, is given annually by General Electric. The Steuben crystal award was recently presented to the firm's principal designers Jan Moyer and Michael Hooker at a Las Vegas reception and dinner in conjunction with the international trade event, LightFair 98.

A prestigious panel of five judges selected the Far Niente project for its superiority in five categories: functional excellence, architectural compatibility, effective use of state-of-the-art lighting products/techniques, energy and cost effectiveness, and good color, form and texture revelation. All projects remain anonymous during the judging process.

This is Jan Lennox-Moyer's second Edison Award; she previously won for lighting the Franco Ferrini Shoe Boutique, Sacramento, Calif., in 1985. In over 20 years of practice, Moyer has written for magazines, including Architectural Lighting and Horticulture and a book titled The Landscape Lighting Book. She has taught extensively nationwide and locally at The Academy of Art College and UC Extension. Michael Hooker began his 30 plus year career in television, opera, theater and concert scenic arts and lighting design. He has taught architectural lighting and environmental technologies at the University of Michigan (body, education) University of Michigan - A large cosmopolitan university in the Midwest USA. Over 50000 students are enrolled at the University of Michigan's three campuses. The students come from 50 states and over 100 foreign countries.  and University of Detroit.

MSH Visual Planners has designed landscape lighting for many Bay Area projects including: Transamerica Redwood Park Plaza, Pier 39, and the SF Zoo Reception Garden in San Francisco; Skywalker Ranch in Marin County; South Shore Shopping Center, Morcom Rose Garden The Morcom Rose Garden (formerly the Morcom Amphitheater of Roses) is located in a residential neighborhood in Oakland, California, near the Piedmont border.

The Rose Garden was constructed in 1932 as a project of the Works Progress Administration.
, Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, City Hall Plaza (currently underway) and, as a public service, the Cameron Stanford House on Lake Meritt, all in Alameda County.
