Martinez looked on with amazement as students loaded boxes and bags full of food into her blue Chevy van, her only concern being that there might not be enough room to pack everything inside. ``When they told me how much food they had, and that they wanted to give it to us, I just started crying,'' Martinez said. ``It was overwhelming. I was just praising God for laying it on their hearts to donate it to us.'' The food drive, initiated by Key Club member and Canyon High senior Mary Schmidl, was intended to last only through Thanksgiving Thanksgiving annual U.S. holiday celebrating harvest and yearly blessings; originated with Pilgrims (1621).
