Castaic issue update: The proposal before the L.A. County Board of Supervisors to have operations at Castaic Lagoon run by a private concessionaire has been continued, again, until March 4. In the meantime, a community meeting will be scheduled in Castaic by the county's Department of Parks and Recreation to debate the issue.

``The reason we are doing it is obviously because of the concern that has developed over the (proposed increase in) fees,'' said Dave Vannatta, deputy to Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich. ``We just want to make sure that all the parties that are interested in using the lake have a common understanding and opportunity to question and challenge and do all the usual things that the public-involvement process does.''

There will be boats, too!: Extreme water sports enthusiasts can get an insider's look at the 1997 market of wakeboards, kneeboards, water skis, converted inner tubes, something called the Air Chair (that ``makes 10- to 12-foot monster leaps into the air effortlessly'') and a range of personal watercraft at the Southern California Boat Show.

The 41st annual manufacturers' exhibit kicks off Saturday and runs through Feb. 9 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

More than 900 new models of vessels will be on display, including more traditional speed boats, fishing boats, sailboats, pontoon boats and party-deck boats.

Seminars will be offered on wakeboarding, water-skiing, fishing, electronics, trailer maintenance and boating-performance tips.

It's swapping time: A free fishing-tackle swap meet and sale will be held Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Fishermen's Spot!, 14423 Burbank Blvd. in Van Nuys.

``This is a great opportunity to clear out old, unused fishing tackle from a garage, attic or storage bin and turn it into cash,'' said Steve Ellis, co-owner of the tackle shop. ``It is also a great chance to find antiques, collectibles and used tackle suitable for a beginner.''

Trout Classic continues: Trout derbies and trophy recognition will continue through March 9 at Corona Lake and Santa Ana River Lakes.

More than $500 in prizes will be up for grabs Saturday during the third annual Corona Lake Trout Championship. Meanwhile, anglers who catch stocked, Mount Lassen-train rainbows of five pounds or heavier at either of the private, fish-for-a-fee facilities will receive awards.

Zev Vue of Tustin won the fifth annual Santa Ana River Lakes Trout Championship Jan. 18 with a 14-pounder rainbow for $250. Brian Carlstrom of Corona won $250 for his 13.9-pound brute, and Donald Neu was $200 richer after boating an 11.3-pounder. The day before the tourney, a 20.6-pound trout was hooked on Power Bait by Chris Zavala of Pico Rivera and an 18.9-pounder was taken on Power Bait and night crawlers by Fred Key of Calabasas.
