Let's meet: Phil Shook, a Houston-based outdoor writer and photographer, will offer a glimpse of Texas fly-fishing opportunities during the Oct. 21 dinner meeting of the Sierra Pacific Flyfishers at Encino Glen, 16821 Burbank Blvd. in Encino. A reception for Shook begins at 6 p.m., with dinner to follow at 7. Shook will also tie flies before the meal.

Mother Nature educates: The Sooky Goldman Nature Center has organized a youth educational program that teaches children about art, science and math by using nature as a guide. The program targets 4- and 5-year-olds and takes place in the William O. Douglas Outdoor Classroom, on Franklin Canyon Drive in the Franklin Canyon Ranch at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Natural leader: The Children's Nature Institute continues its fall naturalist walk-leader program Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Eaton Canyon in Pasadena.
