The annual backcountry winter sports festival at Gold Lake Sno Park near Willamette Pass will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A joint effort of REI, Willamette Backcountry Ski Patrol, The Obsidians, Lane County Search & Rescue and various suppliers, the Winter Fest features snowshoe Snowshoe

 advisory committee to meet in Florence

The state All Terrain Vehicle Allocation Advisory Committee will meet Thursday and Friday in Florence to consider funding requests for a variety of ATV projects. Sessions will begin at 8 a.m. both days at the Florence Fire Hall, 2625 Highway 101. Following its review, the seven-member committee will make funding recommendations to the director of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. Grants awarded by the department are financed by ATV permit sales and gasoline taxes attributed to ATV use.

Meeting Thursday on `Summit' fundraiser

The American Lung Association The American Lung Association (ALA) is a non-profit organization that "fights lung disease in all its forms, with special emphasis on asthma, tobacco control and environmental health".  of Oregon will hold an informational meeting Thursday in Eugene for its annual Reach the Summit fundraiser. The event involves training for and participating in a guided group climb of Mount Hood or Mount Shasta. Participants also raise funds for Lung Association efforts to promote cures, clean air and smoke-free kids. No previous climbing experience is required. Thursday's session begins at 7 p.m. at REI, 306 Lawrence St., Eugene. Details: www.reachthesummit.us.

Rivers and streams: The Alsea, Coquille co·quille

A scallop-shaped dish or a scallop shell in which various seafood dishes are browned and served.



[French, from Latin conch
, Siuslaw and Umpqua rivers are at ideal levels for drift fishing; winter steelhead angling should be good when water temperatures warm.

Lakes: Junction City Pond and Dexter and Dorena reservoirs offer the best prospects for trout angling.

Marine zone: Several crabbers caught their limits in bays on the central coast late last week. Bottom fishing is good when ocean conditions allow boats to get out.
