Free 'Cycling Fitness Seminar' offered in Eugene today

Recently retired professional cyclist Kendra Wenzel, former captain of the Timex Women's Cycling Team, will present a fitness seminar for cyclists today in Eugene. The free workshop, which will focus on tips and techniques for improving cycling performance, begins at 7 p.m. at REI, 306 Lawrence St. Wenzel was a professional cyclist for 11 years and was a member of the U.S. National Team, winning a gold medal in the pursuit at the Pan American Games Pan American (Sports) Games

Quadrennial sports festival. The games, conceived in 1940 as an event for the nations of the Western Hemisphere, were first held in 1951.

 Shotgunning Education Program (CONSEP CONSEP Cooperative North American Shotgunning Education Program ). It will be held Sunday at the Emerald Empire Gun Club northeast of Eugene. CONSEP seminars are geared toward waterfowl waterfowl, common term for members of the order Anseriformes, wild, aquatic, typically freshwater birds including ducks, geese, and screamers. In Great Britain the term is also used to designate species kept for ornamental purposes on private lakes or ponds, while in  hunters, but upland bird hunters can also benefit. Public use of Hills Creek Reservoir to be discussed

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Willamette National Forest The Willamette National Forest is a National Forest located in the central portion of the Cascade Range of Oregon, US.[1] It contains 1,675,407 acres (2,618 mi², 6,780 km²) making it one of the largest national forests.  will host an open house in Oakridge next week to discuss public use of Hills Creek Reservoir southeast of Oakridge. The agencies are developing a Public Use Plan for the reservoir - a popular camping, boating and fishing destination - and want to hear ideas concerning potential issues and possible management actions. The open house begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Greenwaters Park Community Building.

 are staging at the upper end of the Metolius Arm of Lake Billy Chinook before starting their spawning run; opportunities for anglers trolling or jigging are good to excellent. Trout catches are starting to pick up again at Crane Prairie Reservoir and other Cascade lakes. Odell Lake anglers have reported good success for kokanee one day and fair the next.

Marine zone: Sport anglers are finding success going after tuna when weather and ocean conditions allow. Some catches have been reported approximately 50 miles offshore. Fishing for rockfish rockfish, member of the large family Scorpaenidae (rockfishes and scorpionfishes), carnivorous fish inhabiting all seas and especially abundant in the temperate waters of the Pacific. Wildlife viewing

Best bets: Vaux's swifts do something unique this time of year - they gather in large roosting concentrations in chimneys in preparation for migrating south. One such roosting concentration can be seen at Agate Hall, located just east of 18th and Agate streets. Best viewing is from a parking lot on the north side of Agate Hall.
