. Boulders will be placed at four sites on the southeast side of Bingham Bridge often used for unauthorized vehicle access. During the winter, the Corps lowers the water level of the reservoir to create storage for potential floodwaters. The exposed muddy lakebed is tempting for off-road enthusiasts, but vehicle use is not permitted on the lakebeds or adjacent lands at any of the 13 Willamette reservoirs.

FISHING, HUNTING & WILDLIFE VIEWING

Trout stocking report

Area reservoirs: Dorena Reservoir is scheduled to be stocked with 6,000 legal-size rainbow trout this week, while Blue River Reservoir is to get 3,500 fish.

Other angling highlights

Rivers and streams: The "March Brown" trout fishery on the lower McKenzie River is already in progress. The hatches should get better in the coming weeks. The Siuslaw River should be good for late-run winter steelhead as water conditions are expected to drop into prime drift-fishing shape this week. Winter steelhead are being taken on the Santiam system. Spring chinook Chinook, indigenous people of North America

fishing still has not started to take off in either the Willamette or Umpqua rivers.

Lakes and reservoirs: Lane County ponds, reservoirs and lakes on the trout truck route have all been stocked and provide a decent opportunity to catch fish. Angling for warmwater species will improve once water warms a few degrees.

Marine zone: Recreational crabbing is good in the ocean with several sport crabbers reporting limits of large crab in good condition. Crabbing in bays and estuaries is fair to poor. Clam digging is good in Clatsop County.

Wildlife viewing

Best bets: Fern Ridge Wildlife Area is open daily for wildlife viewing from March 16 until Oct. 31, providing outstanding viewing opportunities for many types of wildlife including waterfowl, shore birds, wading birds, song birds, raptors, small mammals, reptiles and amphibians amphibians

members of the animal class Amphibia. Includes frogs, toads, newts, salamanders and cecilians all capable of living on land or in water.
. The dikes around the water impoundments provide good hiking trails, and the hunting blinds are excellent places to sit and watch. Parking areas are located along Highway 126, Neilson Road and Cantrell Road. Another good access point is at the end of Royal Avenue.
