Richard Rioux Park, with a sweeping view of the Santa Susana Mountains The Santa Susana Mountains are a transverse range of mountains in southern California, north of the city of Los Angeles, in the United States. ``He deserved this honor,'' Suzanne Rioux said after the brief, formal groundbreaking.

The park, now a field of rocky soil and weeds, is scheduled to open in about a year on Faulkner Drive, next to Stevenson Ranch School.

At 16.5 acres, Rioux - pronounced rio - Park is the largest recreation center ever acquired by the county under the state's Quimby Act, which requires developers to donate parkland or money to help build parks, said Rodney Cooper, director of parks and recreation for the county.

With about $1.8 million from Proposition A, a softball field, basketball court, picnic area and children's play area will be built.

``It's going to be absolutely gorgeous,'' Cooper said, noting the view. ``We're very proud of this site.''

Rioux was instrumental in working with the Town Council and the Dale Poe Development Co., which established the community, to build a park.

``We're here today to thank Richard for his vision,'' said county Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San . ``Today we have a dedication, next year we'll have an opening.''
