OUR HEROES TRIBUTE HONORS LOCAL TEACHERS.

More than 400 teachers gathered April 25 at the Odyssey restaurant for the 18th annual Teacher Tribute, where the best and brightest of Santa Clarita's educators were honored by members of the community, students and peers for their brilliance and dedication in the classroom.

The 60 honorees were presented with framed medallions as they arrived, then were serenaded by local students Brooke Van Grinsven of Stevenson Ranch Stevenson Ranch, California (in the 91381 ZIP Code) is a Los Angeles County, USA, unincorporated community west of Santa Clarita a few miles south of Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park. The Stevenson Ranch fountain was redone in 2007.  Elementary, who belted out ``America the Beautiful America the Beautiful

patriotic song by Katherine Bates glorifying national ideals (1893). [Am. Music: Scholes, 30]

The event was sponsored by the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Chamber of Commerce.

The keynote speaker, Bobbie Orr, president of the Education Leaders Council and a national leader in education reform, spoke of the privilege and responsibility of teaching, and shared some of her special memories from the classroom.

Also speaking about their teaching experiences were Meadows Elementary teacher Brian Eifert and Canyon High School's Dennis Lynch. Lynch was recently named Teacher of the Year for the William S. Hart Union High School District and for all of Los Angeles County.

After the speakers, the names of the honorees were read and presentations were made to them by local district superintendents including Judy Fish of the Saugus Union School District The Saugus Union School District is a school district in the Santa Clarita Valley that serves the Saugus, Valencia, and Canyon Country communities within the city of Santa Clarita, California. As of March 25,2006, it has 15 elementary schools. , Robert Lee of Hart, Robert Nolet of the Sulphur Springs District, Beverly Silsbee of the Castaic Union School District and Marc Winger of Newhall School District The Newhall School District is a school district in the Santa Clarita Valley that serves the Valencia and Newhall communities within the city of Santa Clarita, California, as well as the Stevenson Ranch community in unincorporated Los Angeles County. .

With the theme, ``Teachers: Unsung Heroes,'' the annual event honors public school teachers for grades kindergarten through 12 who have been singled out by their district administrators for exemplary service to students. It is sponsored by the chamber's Education Foundation.
