WATCH: The last time the Beavers played the Vikings, Ritchie McKay was the PSU head coach, on Jan. 28, 1998. McKay, now in his second season at OSU, will be coaching for the first time against the Vikings, a team he led for two seasons before leaving for Colorado State, his job prior to OSU.

THE BEAVERS: Brandon Payton has had to change his number from `02' to simply `2' after the NCAA ruled the other a rules violation. Payton had chosen `02' in honor of the retired `20' of his older brother Gary Payton ... 7-foot freshman Derek Potter remains doubtful to play tonight due to a stress reaction in his lower left leg. He has played only one minute this season ... the Beavers have shot .547 from the field in their last three games.

THE VIKINGS: PSU has beaten Boise State and Arizona State on the road, but then lost by 21 points at Cal Poly, a team the Beavers play on Saturday ... Vikings are 0-9 against OSU, though this will be only the third time the teams have met in Portland ... PSU is 2-28 against Pac-10 teams, the other win at Oregon in 1997.
