OSU's McGillis plans transfer.

Jack McGillis, one of Oregon State's primary reserves last basketball season, has left the program with plans to transfer to another school.

A junior from Missoula, Mont., the 6-foot-6 McGillis averaged 5.7 points and 2.2 rebounds last season while playing in every game.

While his role was expected to diminish this season with the arrival of several talented new players, the decision made by McGillis this week leaves the Beavers with scant depth for their trip to Italy for six exhibition games beginning Tuesday.

With transfer C.J. Giles and incoming players not allowed to participate in the tour, the playing roster in Italy will be senior Marcel Jones, juniors Joey McConnell and Kyle Bjornstad, sophomores Calvin Hampton (George) Calvin Hampton (December 31 1938–August 5 1984) was a leading American organist and sacred music composer.

, Roeland Schaftenaar, Josh Tarver and Seth Tarver and redshirt freshman Lathen Wallace. Bjornstad is a walk-on.

Meanwhile, the Corvallis Gazette-Times The Corvallis Gazette-Times is a daily newspaper in Corvallis, Oregon. Named Mr. Basketball in the state of Utah by the Deseret News as a senior, the 6-foot-8 Deane averaged 3.9 points and 2.7 rebounds for the Utes as a freshman last season.

Deane will have three years of eligibility left but must sit out the coming season. He was recruited by Stanford, Gonzaga and Kansas, and was a first-team `Best of the West' choice by the Long Beach Press Telegram.
