OSTEOMETER BIOTECH GETS COLLAGEN TECHNOLOGY PATENT.

Osteometer BioTech A/S (http://www.osteobio.com), Copenhagen, Denmark, has been issued U.S. Patent No. 6,107,047 covering key aspects of its technology for estimation of collagen breakdown.

The patent discloses improved methods for estimating bone resorption Bone resorption is the process by which osteoclasts break down bone and release the minerals, resulting in a transfer of calcium from bone fluid to the blood.

The osteoclasts are multi-nucleated cells that contain numerous mitochondria and lysosomes.
by measuring fragments of type I collagen containing certain age-modified (isomerised) peptide sequences Peptide sequence or amino acid sequence is the order in which amino acid residues, connected by peptide bonds, lie in the chain in Peptides and Proteins. . "Together with other patents expected to be granted later this year, our patent portfolio protects the essential elements needed in a sensitive and specific test for bone resorption based on serum measurements. Scientific studies published during the last two years have demonstrated the clinical potential of our technology in monitoring anti-resorptive therapies, and this acknowledgement from the Patent & Trademark Office will support our efforts to position our serum test in the forefront of biochemical testing Biochemical testing
