OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has introduced 6-lead MultiLEDs(R) that provide bright and uniform backlighting back·light
n.
A type of spotlight, used in photography, that illuminates a subject from behind.

 for 17-inch displays.

These LEDs provide a better color brilliance than conventional cold-cathode fluorescent lamps and deliver much greater picture vibrancy. In addition, each color can be controlled individually.

Outperforming the color constancy Noun 1. color constancy - the tendency for a color to look the same under widely different viewing conditions
colour constancy

perceptual constancy, constancy - (psychology) the tendency for perceived objects to give rise to very similar perceptual
and brightness of previous LED designs, 6-lead MultiLEDs can be arranged closely together and flat on the board, resulting in light that is distributed more evenly. These characteristics make the new generation of LEDs now suitable for 17" displays.

In addition to increased brightness, these products offer a number of other advantages over cold-cathode fluorescent lamps. For example, the color temperature The measurement of color expressed in Kelvin (K). The reason this measurement is called a "temperature" is because it was derived from a theoretical object called a "black body radiator." When the radiator is heated, it changes from black to red to yellow to white to blue.  can be adjusted by combining the individual colors so displays can be adjusted to user preferences. The brightness and color of the display remain constant, which is ideal for picture editing or graphics work.

Additionally, the 6-lead MultiLED packages are robust and resistant to vibration, which make them ideal for reliability-focused applications, such as automotive, industrial, commercial and avionics. The LED packages are mercury-free and are environmentally friendly Environmentally friendly, also referred to as nature friendly, is a term used to refer to goods and services considered to inflict minimal harm on the environment.[1] .

The new, enhanced-power, 6-lead MultiLED package provides better heat dissipation Noun 1. heat dissipation - dissipation of heat
chilling, cooling, temperature reduction - the process of becoming cooler; a falling temperature
over the previous 4-lead devices. The new design reduces development cost by decreasing the number of heat sinks required and reduces the thickness of the panel, enabling more design flexibility. For this reason, the new 6-lead MultiLEDs are well suited for automotive in-dash display panel backlighting. The new 6-lead MultiLEDs also provide bright and consistent backlighting for conventional 17" view panel displays.
