ORTHOMET ENTERS FIVE-YEAR AGREEMENT TO DISTRIBUTE 3M RECONSTRUCTIVE SHOULDER PRODUCTS

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Orthomet, Inc. (NASDAQ: OMET) announced today that it will distribute reconstructive shoulder products manufactured by the Orthopaedic Devices unit of the 3M (NYSE: MMM) Health Care organization. Under terms of the five-year agreement between the two companies, Orthomet will handle nationwide distribution of the 3M Modular Shoulder System, which was recently approved for marketing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and 3M's Neer II, a non-modular shoulder system.
Richard D. Nikolaev, Orthomet's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "This agreement with 3M moves Orthomet into a fast growing segment of the joint replacement market, while allowing our development team to concentrate in other areas. The Neer II design is considered a standard by which other designs are measured, and the newly approved modular shoulder design expands the options available to orthopaedic surgeons."
Nikolaev added, "We have been strengthening our distribution network in the U.S., and the addition of the 3M reconstructive shoulder products will take greater advantage of this network and help continue to improve it."
Orthomet, Inc. designs, manufactures and markets selected orthopaedic reconstructive implant products and related surgical instrumentation.
