OREXANA SUBSIDIARY EXPANDS OPERATIONS

MIAMI, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Orexana Corporation (NASDAQ: XXAU) announced today that Advent Medical Services, a division of Diagnostic Ultrasound, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Orexana has recently opened three facilities "The Freedom Centers" for the treatment of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, including treatment for chronic constipation, pelvic pain, urinary and fecal incontinence. Also, Advent is currently field testing a comprehensive continence program designed for retirement communities and nursing homes.
According to Michael Williams, C.E.O. of Diagnositc Ultrasound, Inc. "Over 20 million Americans are incontinent (the inability to control urinary and/or bowel functions) and between 15 percent to 30 percent of all Americans over 55 years of age (not living in a nursing home) are incontinent. Incontinence is the leading non-life threatening health problem in America, and is the second leading cause of admissions to nursing homes. A recent survey of nursing homes reveals between 40 to 60 percent of residents are urinary incontinent and the average nursing home goes through more than 2,000 briefs and pads during a typical week."
America spends $10 billion annually on incontinence, which is one of America's best kept secrets and most kinds of incontinence can be treated with a 70-98 percent effectiveness.
In 1992, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR), a branch of the Department of Health and Human Services released guidelines for urinary incontinence. The guidelines suggest treatment should begin with the least invasive therapies; bladder retraining and pelvic muscle exercises which is exactly the service provided by Advents "Freedom Centers".
"The Freedom Centers" offer a comprehensive Pelvic Floor Muscle Rehabilitation Program utilizing an EMG Continence System -- a combination of computerized biofeedback, patented Electr MG sensors and extensive Bio-Behavior training.
Under the direction of Linda West, R.N., B.C.I.A.C., clinical director and Patricia Kazmarek, R.N., marketing director, Advent has developed several programs designed for the education of physicians, incontinent patients, and the families of incontinent patients. Advent's dedication to delivering quality healthcare and education uniquely qualifies Advent as a leading pioneer in the treatment of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction.
 B. Douglas Riddle, president of Diagnostic Ultrasound, Inc. said, "The incontinence program is a natural fit with our mobile diagnostic imaging division, as the same physicians and patients we provide diagnostic services are overwhelmingly supporting the incontinence division. We expect to open several additional Freedom Centers in 1993, and I believe that the ensuing results will be positive and shall be positively reflected in our earnings.
