OREXANA COMPLETES FINANCING AND MOVES AHEAD WITH EXPANSION PLANS

MIAMI, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Orexana Corporation (NASDAQ: XXAU) announced today that it has completed financing for its interim operating requirements and immediate expansion plans.
Advent Medical Services, a division of Diagnostic Ultrasound, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Orexana, will open two fully staffed medical treatment facilities in December 1992 for the treatment of incontinence (involuntary loss of urine or feces) utilizing Orion/Perry Continence System, including the Electromyographic (EMG) Perincometer Perry sensor. This treatment is a non-invasive procedure with positive results usually achieved within 4 to 6 weeks. Published medical reports and clinical results confirm over 80 percent of adults who undergo this treatment are cured or greatly improved. Current estimates indicate that over 10 million Americans suffer from urinary incontinence at a financial cost of over $10 billion annually.
Earlier this year, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) a branch of the Department of Health and Human Services released guidelines for urinary incontinence, which state treatment should begin with the least invasive therapies i.e. bladder retraining and pelvic muscle exercises. Michael Williams, CEO of Advent Diagnostic said, "Many people with incontinence turn primarily to the use of absorbent products or supportive aids without having their condition properly diagnosed and treated." The embarrassment associated with incontinence and the misconception that only surgical treatment is available, has kept millions of Americans from seeking professional help. The medial treatment of incontinence, utilizing EMG may virtually eliminate the need of absorbent products for most patients.
Advent Diagnostic plans to open six treatment facilities by March 1993 and is entering into management contracts with several hospitals to set up their own treatment facilities.
