ORCHESTRAS WILL SHOWCASE TALENTS.

PALMDALE - The Palmdale Youth and Community Orchestras will showcase their musicians' talents in ``An Evening of Musical Inspiration.''

The concert at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Palmdale Playhouse will feature a variety of ensemble The word ensemble can refer to

, duet and solo performances.

``Every season it keeps getting more difficult,'' said violinist Allen Wong, 16, who with sister Cathey, 14, has been in the orchestra three years. ``It just doesn't stop becoming challenging. That's what keeps us coming.''

The orchestras are open to anyone with at least one year's experience playing an instrument. Interested participants must be able to sight-read music, have a prepared major scale and a prepared audition audition /au·di·tion/ (aw-dish´un) hearing.

The youth orchestra is celebrating its ninth season this year. It split off from the community orchestra in 1996.

Tickets to ``An Evening of Musical Inspiration'' are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, military and children age 12 and younger. For tickets, call the Palmdale Playhouse box office at (661) 267-5685. For information on joining the Palmdale Youth and Community Orchestras, call (661) 267-5684.

The Wongs joined the orchestra after moving to Palmdale from Fort Worth, Texas Fort Worth is the fifth-largest city in the state of Texas, 18th-largest city in the United States[1], and voted one of "America’s Most Livable Communities. , three years ago. Their parents were happy to find the community orchestra because it allowed the kids to develop their musical skills and timing.

``That's one thing that we missed. You have to play in a group environment,'' said father Kenneth Wong. ``In order to synchronize See synchronization.  with the music you have to play in a group.''

The orchestras are conducted by Patricia Graham Patricia Albjerg Graham is an historian of American education. She is currently directing the pit orchestra for Desert Opera Theatre's production of ``Fame'' and has previously directed the orchestra for the Palmdale Repertory Theatre repertory theatre
