ORCHESTRA ROSINING BOW FOR A FREE CLASSIC SHOW.

NEWHALL - Eleven-year-old violinist Katherine Walsh will join nearly 100 young musicians Saturday night and bring the strains of Beethoven, Berlioz and Handel to music lovers at a free concert at Hart High.

The Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  Youth Orchestra, made up of three ability- based orchestras, will kick off the annual event at 7:30 p.m. in the Hart High auditorium.

``I love it. I sign up every year,'' said Walsh, who started in the beginning strings section and now plays in the middle orchestra. ``I have dreams of playing in the philharmonic.''

While the youth orchestra's philharmonic consists mostly of high school-age musicians, the program, run through the College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  music department, emphasizes instruction from the ground up.

 every week, but the (Youth Orchestra) Foundation offers support by fund raising,'' said Terry Montross, a foundation board member.

The annual event has hosted a wine-tasting event to raise money for the program, but Montross said the energy crisis prompted organizers to seek an outdoor venue this year.

This year's fund-raiser, to be hosted June 9 by the Santa Clarita-based Change of Scenery is a water garden tour featuring local landscaping with ponds, koi ponds, waterfalls This is a list of worldwide waterfalls. Africa

Montross said the $10 tickets and event information will be available in the lobby at Saturday's concert at Hart High.

Unlike past concerts, which have featured movie scores and musicals, this event is dedicated to classical music.

Selections include Ludwig van Beethoven's ``Fidello Overture overture, instrumental musical composition written as an introduction to an opera, ballet, oratorio, musical, or play. Montross said the events have raised as much as $15,000, which go to musical instruction, instruments and other orchestra necessities.
