ORCHARDS TO OPEN FOR ANNUAL FESTIVAL.

LEONA VALLEY - It's cherry-picking time in Leona Valley.

Dozens of ``you-pick'' orchards are ready for thousands of Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  visitors for the region's annual cherry parade and festival Saturday.

The character's mission is to raise public awareness to protect America's forests.  will all be part of the parade, which begins at 11 a.m.

Visitors are advised to arrive either before 10:30 a.m. or after 12 noon, as roads will be closed during the parade.

The parade will begin at Leona Avenue and 90th Street West, run north on 90th to Elizabeth Lake Road, then east to the Leona Valley Community Center, 8367 Elizabeth Lake Road.

Grand marshal Grand Marshal is a ceremonial, military, or political office of very high rank. The term has its origins with the word "Marshal" with the first usage of the term "Grand Marshal" as a ceremonial title for certain religious orders.  this year is resident Chuck Crandall, chosen because of his long involvement with the community. Riding in the parade as junior grand marshal will be 10-year-old Samantha Love, a Leona Valley Elementary School Valley Elementary School is an elementary school located in Beavercreek, Ohio and is part of the Beavercreek City School District. The festival itself runs from noon to about 4 p.m. at the community center. People can eat barbecued food and cherry pie Cherry pie is a pie made with a cherry filling.

Morello cherries (sour cherries) are often used in cherry pies. Cherries are expensive — and sweet varieties are best used eaten fresh and raw. Sour cherries are best for cooking and may be used fresh or preserved.

Prices vary between ranches, but cherries typically sell for about $2 a pound. Ladders and buckets are available for patrons to use when picking the fruit.
