ORCAD ANNOUNCES NEW VP OF ENGINEERING SERVICES

HILLSBORO, Ore., May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- OrCAD today announced that it has promoted Gerald Fahrenkopf to the position of vice president of engineering services. The announcement was made by Mike Bosworth, OrCAD's president and chief executive officer, at a recent company-wide meeting.
Fahrenkopf, 40, joined OrCAD in 1988 as the manager of technical support. He was the 17th employee hired by the company. In the five years Fahrenkopf has been at OrCAD, he has developed and managed several new key departments for the company, including publications, testing and manufacturing. Before joining OrCAD, Fahrenkopf was a product manager at Metheus Corp., a producer of computer graphic systems, based in Beaverton. While at Metheus, he held several positions, including applications engineer, manager of applications engineering and engineering manager. Among his degrees, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Oregon State University and has completed all course work necessary for a Master's of Science in Computer Science.
"It gave me great pleasure to announce Gerald's promotion," said Bosworth. "Along with a number of other long-time employees, Gerald has been instrumental in helping make OrCAD what it is today."
As vice president of engineering services, Fahrenkopf has operational responsibility for three vital departments, including technical support, publications, and testing and manufacturing, which employ 24 people. He reports to the president and chief executive officer.
"I left Metheus to join OrCAD because I had become convinced that electronic design automation (EDA) tools for the personal computer were the wave of the future," stated Fahrenkopf. "I was pleased to have the opportunity to help OrCAD catch that wave, and I am even more pleased that the opportunity still exists and I can continue to contribute."
OrCAD's line of EDA tools provides a complete design solution for printed circuit boards (PCBs), field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and programmable logic devices (PLDs) from schematic capture and logic design synthesis, through simulation, to printed circuit board layout. The company targets the PC environment, and its DOS products have achieved an installed base of 76,000, the largest in the industry. More than 50 companies belong to OrCAD's Associates Program, a group that supplies additional design tools that interface with the OrCAD product line. The company's U.S. operations are headquartered in Hillsboro, and its European operations in Paris. OrCAD distributes its products through a world-wide network of resellers.
