ORANGE-CO, INC. ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT TO SELL JUICE IN JAPAN
BARTOW, Fla., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Orange-co, Inc. (NYSE: OJ) announced today that it had signed an agreement with Mitsubishi Corporation to be the exclusive provider of orange and apple juice to almost 1,000 Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets that Mitsubishi controls throughout Japan.
The juice to be sold will be shipped in disposable, 96-ounce concentrate juice containers developed by Orange-co and will be dispensed by machines supplied by Jet Corporation. These machines will be supplied to the KFC outlets as quickly as possible and it is expected that all of the restaurants will be outfitted by the end of the first year. The initial agreement is for one year and is renewable. Orange-co officials expect the revenue impact of this transaction to be between $1 million and $2 million in the first year and to exceed that amount in future years once all of the stores are equipped with the machines.
Commenting on this agreement, Robert A. Peiser, president and chief executive officer of Orange-co, said that "while volume expectations in the first year are modest, we view the agreement as the first step toward a growing penetration of the foodservice sector in Japan and other international markets. It demonstrates our continuing commitment to providing foodservice customers with orange and other juice products, a strategy which has become a major focus of Orange-co's strategic direction."
Orange-co has previously sold concentrated juice in bulk form to Japan and recently began selling single-strength juice to that country through C. Itoh & Company. The agreement with Mitsubishi provides that Orange-co will be the exclusive supplier of juice in plastic dispenser containers.
Orange-co is a grower and processor of citrus products and a packager and distributor of a growing number of beverage products principally to institutional foodservice companies.
