OPTICAL DATA SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES THAT J. FRED BUCY HAS JOINED ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 RICHARDSON, Texas, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Optical Data Systems, Inc. (ODS) (NASDAQ-NMS: ODSI), a Dallas metroplex based manufacturer of intelligent hubs for heterogeneous computing environments, announced today that J. Fred Bucy was elected to the ODS board of directors at the annual stockholders meeting held yesterday (April 29, 1993).
 Mr. Bucy was president, CEO and a director of Texas Instruments,
Inc. when he retired in 1985 after 32 years of service. Among other activities, Mr. Bucy is a director of Alliant Techsystems. Inc.; a member of the coordinating board advisory committee on research of the Texas College and University System; a trustee of Southwest Research Institute; an alternate member of the advisory board of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (RIEEES) Spectrum; a former member of the board of regents of Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center from 1973 to 1991, including two terms as its chairman; and former chairman of the Texas National Research Laboratory Commission (the Texas Superconducting Super Collider Agency). Mr. Bucy has been accorded Distinguished Alumnus and Distinguished Engineer Awards by Texas Tech University, is a fellow of the IEEE and is a life member of the Navy League.
