Coinciding with MADD's 25th anniversary, this year's theme is "Time to Stop Drunk Driving." The poster contest is open to all students in grades 4 through 8, and cannot feature any brand names. Book grant application workshop on Thursday First Book-Eugene/Springfield, which distributes first new books to low-income children through existing literacy programs in Lane County, will hold a book grant application workshop Thursday for representatives of education or social service agencies. Participants will learn how to apply for a book grant to support a literacy component in one of their services or programs, as well as ideas for integrating literacy activities into programs for kids. The workshop will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Singer Room of the Eugene Public Library, 100 W. 10th Ave. Returning grant recipients and new applicants are welcome.
