OPEN ROAD REVS ARTISTS MOTORCYCLES ARE SUBJECT OF EXHIBIT.

Byline: CAROL ROCK Staff Writer

VALENCIA -- His artwork takes up an entire wall, but gazing at it can take a person down twisted roads, feeling the wind on their face and hearing the steady roar of a double-stroke engine.

Artist Charlie Patton Charlie Patton, better known as Charley Patton (May 1, 1891 - April 28, 1934) is best known as an American Delta blues musician. He is considered by many to be the "Father of Delta Blues" and therefore one of the oldest known figures of American popular music.  -- whose canvases average 8 by 8 feet, trimmed in diamond plate -- is mounting his inaugural first show, ``V-Twins, Chrome and Creations: An American Motorcycle Art Review,'' Aug. 26-27 in the boiler room boiler room n. a telephone bank operation in which fast-talking telemarketers or campaigners attempt to sell stock, services, goods, or candidates and act as if they are calling from an established company or brokerage.  of the Queen Mary Queen Mary, Queen Marie, or Queen Maria may refer to: Queens

``I wanted to do a one-man show, but finding a place big enough was a challenge,'' Patton said from his Valencia studio. ``I was introduced to the Long Beach Arts Council An arts council is a government or private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts mainly by funding local artists, awarding prizes, and organizing events at home and abroad.  and someone suggested the Queen Mary. When I walked in there, I was overwhelmed by the size of the space and knew I couldn't use the whole area by myself.''

Patton asked the editor of V-Twins Magazine for some suggestions, perhaps a referral to one or two artists who do commissions for Harley-Davidson, to help fill out the show. What he ended up with was a boatload boat·load

``These are major Harley guys,'' he said. ``There are only four in the country licensed to use the Harley logo and they're all in the show. We've been able to put together 250 pieces of art in an incredibly short time.''

The show will feature motorcycle art in several mediums by fellow painters Scott Jacobs Scott Jacobs is a well established photo realistic painter as well as the first licensed Harley-Davidson artist.

The show is a first for Ron and Courtney Garner, owners of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Choppers, who customize motorcycles in their Valencia workshop and will bring two or three of their own creations to the Queen Mary to add a three-dimensional perspective.

``With his artwork being motorcycle-oriented, we're bringing ours to give people something physical to look at,'' Courtney Garner said.

The couple started building and customizing bikes in their garage three years ago, with unique artwork that Courtney said ``brings them to life.''

``We wanted to do this show because Charlie is a wonderful artist and he was taken by our work,'' she said.

``We're not really looking at the show as a way to sell anything, but maybe attract a different line of people, not the ones who always go to the bike shows.

``They might not be thinking of getting a bike, but this might spark their interest in getting one.''

Patton's work goes far beyond slapping color on canvas. He works on Belgian linen with high-quality paints, adding gold leaf, silver and variegated variegated adjective Multifaceted; with many colors, aspects, features, etc  metal accents in a style reminiscent of Austrian art nouveau painter Gustav Klimt.

``When I started painting, I didn't want to create realistic images,'' he said.

``I wanted to do something iconic of this motorcycle culture.''

``You don't have to ride to appreciate the art that goes into this,'' he said, referring to ``Speed Limit 150'' on the studio easel. ``It's like the fine lines of a car.

``I have no limits,'' he continued.

``I paint what I feel, I don't have to paint formulaic. That's the beauty of this.''
