``This is the first of many, hopefully,'' said Teri Jones, president of the Rotary Club of Palmdale. ``I'm excited about it. I'm pleased at the turnout.''

``It's great. Every year it'll probably get bigger and bigger, said Lancaster resident Bill Burgess, member of the Rotary Club of Palmdale, whose 9-year-old son, Jordan, and 6-year-old daughter, Brianne, competed. ``It gets the kids involved; it gets the parents involved.''

The cars, which coast downhill and do not have engines, were made from kits that were purchased through the Rotary Club of Palmdale. The plywood board was donated by Home Depot The Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is an American retailer of home improvement and construction products and services.
