ON Technology Continues to Support Latest Intel PC Management Standards.

Launches ON Command CCM PXE V2 management server

with planned support for enhanced digital security

At the Wired for Management Summit '99 conference sponsored by Intel Corporation, ON Technology (NASDAQ: ONTC) announced its support for the Wired for Management Baseline Version 2.0 (WfM) specification. The Wired for Management Initiative is a standards-based effort led by Intel to improve the manageability of PCs and decrease the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of business computing, while retaining the full power and flexibility of personal computing. Major PC manufacturers such as Compaq, Dell, HP, IBM and Micron are now shipping WfM-enabled business PCs, and ON Technology's industry-leading PC management solution, ON Command CCM(TM), is one of the earliest supporters of the WfM 2.0 specification.

The new ON Command CCM PXE V2 Server has been designed to support advanced digital signature technology that provides enhanced security for managed PC environments. In particular, the new server supports WfM 2.0-enabled PCs that implement the Boot Integrity Services (BIS). With BIS, systems use authentication based on public key cryptography to protect against hackers who might attempt to download malicious software to PCs.

ON Command CCM also supports the following key features of the Intel(R) Wired for Management Baseline specification:

-- Remote Wake-Up (RWU): The ON Command CCM server can remotely

power on PCs in order to perform management operations at

off-hours, so as to minimize impact on end-user productivity or

network operations.

-- Pre-boot eXecution Environment (PXE): PCs can automatically

connect to centralized ON Command CCM servers while booting,

providing key management tasks such as installing or upgrading an

operating system, formatting the PC hard drive, or flashing the

PC BIOS. ON Command CCM performs these tasks in an unattended

manner that does not require any interaction by the end-user.

-- Desktop Management Interface (DMI) V2: IT administrators can view

the status of installed hardware and software on remote PCs to

aid in asset management and Help Desk troubleshooting.

Pricing & Availability

ON Command CCM V4.01 and V4.5 currently support PXE V2 clients (non-BIS-enabled) and pre-PXE V2 clients. ON Technology plans to ship its PXE V2 server for Microsoft Windows NT within 90 days. Add-on tools for creating BIS-compatible digital credentials and configuring BIS clients are planned to ship to ON Technology partners in pre-release form in Q4/1999. Formal release of these add-on tools is planned for Q1/2000. ON Command CCM is priced starting at $100 per seat for 1000+ seats, with additional UNIX or NT server licenses available at no charge.
