ON Semiconductor(Nasdaq:ONNN) Monday announced the availability of a DC-DC DC-DC Direct Current to Direct Current (power conversion) converter that extends battery usage in portable equipment powered by one or two battery packs.

Available in a low profile 5-pin SOT-23 package, the NCP1402 offers a 60 percent reduction in footprint when compared to the MC33463, the previous generation product.
A small package size coupled with improved features such as higher efficiency (85 percent), higher current output (80 milli-Amperes) and lower noise specifications than competitive products, the NCP1402 DC-DC controller is ideal for applications that include handheld instruments and games, camcorders, MP3 players, digital still cameras and portable communication devices.
It requires only three external components making it a simple and flexible means to implement highly efficient converters capable of up to 200 milli-Amperes of output current.
