Extending its presence in the high-performance clock- and data-management arena, ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq:ONNN) today introduced the MC100EP809 -- a 1:9 3.3 volts (V) differential HSTL/PECL to HSTL clock driver with LVTTL LVTTL Low Voltage Transistor Transistor Logic (AMCC)

 clock select and enable -- for use in driving clock signals across the backplane in the latest computer workstations, servers, networking equipment and telecom systems.

The device is compatible for use in the Intel(R) Itanium(R) platform.

In order to limit the increased power draw of larger scale integration and higher transistor counts, circuit designers are reducing the operating voltage of their devices. High Speed Transceiver Logic (HSTL) provides an interface standard below the 2.5 V logic level -- dramatically improving power efficiency.

The ON Semiconductor MC100EP809 was created specifically for clock management in these high-performance and low-voltage applications. The MC100EP809 delivers ultra low jitter, improved signal integrity, a small footprint and optimum performance for HSTL-based signaling circuits.

The MC100EP809 is the newest member of ON Semiconductor's clock and data management family of high frequency products. It is compatible with low voltage 3.0V to 3.6V system supplies and has a moderate current drain of less than 90 milliamps (mA) -- thus reducing system power

) based timing signal from a master Phase Lock Loop (PLL) clock generator to an HSTL-based configuration for distributing nine separate clock signals. The versatile HSTL standard also allows both differential and single-ended communications, making for a dynamic design option.

The MC100EP809 guarantees low output-to-output skew. The optimal design, layout, and silicon processing minimize skew within each MC100EP809 device to 25 picoseconds (ps) and from lot to lot at 100 ps. Low-jitter performance is achieved as a result of optimized design techniques and propagation delay is kept below 1 nanosecond (ns).

The performance and versatility of the MC100EP809 provides an ideal solution for designers to distribute low-skew clock signals across the backplane of their low voltage circuit board.

Packaging and Price

Packaged in a space-saving standard 32-pin Low Profile Quad Flat Pack (LQFP See QFP. ), ON Semiconductor offers the MC100EP809 for $8.20 per unit in 10,000 unit quantities. The device is also available in wafer form to offer additional design flexibility.
