Delivering operating frequencies above 2.5 gigahertz (GHz), the device is ideal for timing module applications in high-speed telecommunications, networking and automated test equipment. The NBLVEP16VR operates as the active device in a timing module with three fundamental tasks. First, the device provides amplification of the differential feedback loop with selectable 4 milliamp (MILLIAMPere) One thousandth of an amp. Abbreviated "mA." See ampere-hour.  (mA) or 8 mA self bias current sources. Additionally, it offers simultaneous amplification of the primary output with an available 10 mA current source or traditional LVPECL LVPECL Low Voltage Positive Emitter Coupled Logic . Finally, the NBLVEP16VR functions as a buffer to isolate the oscillator circuit from the rest of the application.

Skew and jitter are kept at a minimum through the advanced design and manufacturing technologies shared by ON Semiconductor's ECLinPS Plus family. Jitter for the NBLVEP16VR is typically below 0.5 picoseconds (ps) and duty cycle skew is 5 ps, ensuring the highest possible signal stability for clock signals. The device employs ON Semiconductor's ultra precise bipolar process to offer output rise/fall times and propagation delay at a maximum of 300 ps.

Offering unparalleled flexibility in module design, the NBLVEP16VR accepts both Low Voltage Positively Referenced Emitter Coupled Logic Emitter Coupled Logic - (ECL) (Or "Current Mode Logic") A technology for building logic gates where the emitter of a transistor is used as the output rather than its collector. ECL has a propagation time of 0.5 - 2 ns (faster than TTL) and a power dissipation 3 - 10 times higher than TTL.  (LVPECL) and negatively referenced ECL (Emitter-Coupled Logic) A digital circuit composed of bipolar transistors in which the emitter ends are wired together. ECL gates switch faster than TTL gates, but consume more power. See TTL, I2L and bipolar.

Packaged in a space-saving 3 mm by 3 mm QFN-16 Quad Flat No-lead) package, the NBLVEP16VR is priced at $2.85 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities. The device is also available in wafer and bare die for space-conscious timing modules and additional design flexibility.
