ON Semiconductor Introduces Industry's Fastest High Gain Oscillator Amplifier/Buffer for Networking and Telecom Applications.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 2004 NBLVEP16VR amplifier enables high gain outputs and a fully differential feedback loop at a maximum speed of 2.5 GHz for timing modules Continuing to expand its portfolio of advanced components for high-speed data and telecommunication applications, ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ NASDAQ in full National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations U.S. market for over-the-counter securities. Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on : ONNN) today introduced the NBLVEP16VR -- an amplifier featuring both an oscillator oscillator Mechanical or electronic device that produces a back-and-forth periodic motion. A pendulum is a simple mechanical oscillator that swings with a constant amplitude, requiring the addition of energy at each swing only to compensate for the energy lost because of air gain stage and enabled high gain outputs. Delivering operating frequencies above 2.5 gigahertz (GHz), the device is ideal for timing module applications in high-speed telecommunications, networking and automated test equipment. Specific applications include use in the buffer/amplifier for Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillators (VCXO VCXO Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator ), Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillators (TCXO TCXO Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator TCXO Temperature-Controlled Crystal Oscillator ) and Surface Acoustic Wave A surface acoustic wave (SAW) is an acoustic wave traveling along the surface of a material having some elasticity, with an amplitude that typically decays exponentially with the depth of the substrate. (SAW) based modules in high-speed telecommunications, networking and automated test equipment. The NBLVEP16VR operates as the active device in a timing module with three fundamental tasks. First, the device provides amplification of the differential feedback loop with selectable 4 milliamp (MILLIAMPere) One thousandth of an amp. Abbreviated "mA." See ampere-hour. (mA) or 8 mA self bias current sources. Additionally, it offers simultaneous amplification of the primary output with an available 10 mA current source or traditional LVPECL LVPECL Low Voltage Positive Emitter Coupled Logic . Finally, the NBLVEP16VR functions as a buffer to isolate the oscillator circuit from the rest of the application. Skew and jitter are kept at a minimum through the advanced design and manufacturing technologies shared by ON Semiconductor's ECLinPS Plus family. Jitter for the NBLVEP16VR is typically below 0.5 picoseconds (ps) and duty cycle skew is 5 ps, ensuring the highest possible signal stability for clock signals. The device employs ON Semiconductor's ultra precise bipolar process to offer output rise/fall times and propagation delay at a maximum of 300 ps. Offering unparalleled flexibility in module design, the NBLVEP16VR accepts both Low Voltage Positively Referenced Emitter Coupled Logic Emitter Coupled Logic - (ECL) (Or "Current Mode Logic") A technology for building logic gates where the emitter of a transistor is used as the output rather than its collector. ECL has a propagation time of 0.5 - 2 ns (faster than TTL) and a power dissipation 3 - 10 times higher than TTL. (LVPECL) and negatively referenced ECL (Emitter-Coupled Logic) A digital circuit composed of bipolar transistors in which the emitter ends are wired together. ECL gates switch faster than TTL gates, but consume more power. See TTL, I2L and bipolar. 1. , and operates at 2.5 volts (V), 3.3 V and 5 V. "The NBLVEP16VR excels as both a buffer and an amplifier for any major VCXO, TCXO, and SAW application," said Bill Schromm, ON Semiconductor vice president and director for High Frequency Timing and Interface Products. "Because it delivers superior performance and selectable current source outputs, this amplifier is the best receiver/driver on the market for high-performance oscillator applications." Packaging and Price Packaged in a space-saving 3 mm by 3 mm QFN-16 Quad Flat No-lead) package, the NBLVEP16VR is priced at $2.85 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities. The device is also available in wafer and bare die for space-conscious timing modules and additional design flexibility. For additional technical information, visit http://www.onsemi.com/tech.
