OMG Announces Program for Third Annual Software-Based Communications Workshop: Realizing the Vision.

March 5-8, 2007; Fairfax, VA

NEEDHAM, Mass. -- The Object Management Group[TM] (OMG (1) See Object Management Group.

(2) "Oh my God!" See digispeak.

OMG - Object Management Group
[TM]) today announced the program for its Software-Based Communications (SBC (1) (SBC Communications Inc., San Antonio, TX, www.sbc.com) A large, national telecommunications company that grew from a multitude of local and regional companies, including Southwestern Bell, Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell, into a single, unified brand by 2002. ) Workshop: Realizing the Vision. The workshop, co-sponsored by Boeing (www.boeing.com) and PrismTech (www.prismtechnologies.com) will take place March 5-8, 2007 in Fairfax, VA, USA. For more information and to register visit http://www.omg.org/sbc-program.

Partnering with industry, government and other standards bodies, the OMG continues its standardization efforts related to Software-Based Communication (SBC) technology with a focus on the development of a software architecture for software-defined radios (SDR See software defined radio. ). Building upon a military software-defined radio (SDR) foundation, Software-Based Communication technology has matured, with applicability growing to address a wide range of application areas including automotive, public safety, global tracking, consumer electronics and cellular network infrastructure. The Software-Based Communications Workshop: Realizing the Vision, includes perspectives on both military and commercial SBC technologies. Program highlights include:

 John H. Glenn Research Center The Glenn Research Center (more correctly, the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center at Lewis Field) is a NASA center, located in Cleveland, Ohio between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and the Rocky River Reservation (part of the Cleveland Metroparks).

* Dr. Jinsung Choi, CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. See CIO and salary survey. , LG Electronics: Future Mobile Devices Based on Software Based Platform

Tutorials

* An Introduction to the OMG Systems Modeling Language (OMG SysML[TM]), by Sanford Friedenthal, Principal Systems Engineer, Lockheed Martin

* OMG Software Radio Specifications, by Gerald Lee Bickle, Chief Scientist-SDR Products, PrismTech

Session Topics

* Analysis and Design of Space Systems

* Security-Aware SBC

* Tool Support for SBC Software Development

* Panel: Convergence of Military & Commercial SDR Requirements & Standards

* Evolving Standards Realizing the Extended, Higher Performance, Lower Cost SDR Vision

* New Directions for SBC

* Panel: Alternative Architectures for Software Based Communications

* Integration

* Developing Communication Systems Using MDA (1) (Monochrome Display Adapter) The first IBM PC monochrome video display standard for text. Due to its lack of graphics, MDA cards were often replaced with Hercules cards, which provided both text and graphics. See PC display modes and Hercules Graphics.

* Case Studies for The Software Defined Radio A wireless terminal (phone, PDA, etc.) that is reconfigurable via software. It enables wireless devices to be easily updated to new or later versions of the air interface and allows multiple interfaces to be supported.

* With presentations from organizations such as Boeing, Eecole de Technologie Superieure, Ecole Superieure de Communication de Tunis, Hanyang University, L-3 Communications, LG Electronics, Lockheed Martin, Motorola Labs, NASA John H. Glenn Research Center, Objective Interface Systems, PrismTech, Raytheon, SCA (Single Connector Attachment) An 80-pin plug and socket used to connect peripherals. With a SCSI drive, it rolls three cables (power, data channel and ID configuration) into one connector for fast installation and removal.  Technica, Inc., THALES Communications, The MITRE Corporation, University of Athens, Virginia Tech, and Zeligsoft

The early-bird registration deadline is February 5, 2007; the hotel reservation cutoff is February 12, 2007. About the Object Management Group

OMG is an international, open membership, not-for-profit computer industry consortium. OMG Task Forces develop enterprise integration standards for a wide range of technologies, including: Real-time, Embedded and Specialized Systems, Analysis & Design, Architecture-Driven Modernization and Middleware and an even wider range of industries, including: Business Modeling and Integration, C4I, Finance, Government, Healthcare, Legal Compliance, Life Sciences Research, Manufacturing Technology, Robotics, Software-Based Communications and Space.

OMG's modeling standards, including the Unified Modeling Language See UML.

(language) Unified Modeling Language - (UML) A non-proprietary, third generation modelling language. The Unified Modeling Language is an open method used to specify, visualise, construct and document the artifacts of an object-oriented software-intensive system
[TM] (UML[R]) and Model Driven Architecture[R] (MDA[R]), enable powerful visual design, execution and maintenance of software and other processes, including IT Systems Modeling and Business Process Management. OMG's middleware standards and profiles are based on the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (standard, programming) Common Object Request Broker Architecture - (CORBA) An Object Management Group specification which provides a standard messaging interface between distributed objects.

The original CORBA specification (1.
 (CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) A software-based interface from the Object Management Group (OMG) that allows software modules (objects) to communicate with each other no matter where they are located on a private network or the global [R]) and support a wide variety of industries.
