OMG Announces PrismTech as the Exclusive Sponsor of Their First Annual Software-Based Communications Workshop: From Mobile to Agile Communications.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2004

Workshop will focus on standardization efforts related to both

applications of SBC (1) (SBC Communications Inc., San Antonio, TX, www.sbc.com) A large, national telecommunications company that grew from a multitude of local and regional companies, including Southwestern Bell, Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell, into a single, unified brand by 2002.

PrismTech, a leading provider of distributed software infrastructure, was today announced as the exclusive sponsor of the Object Management Group's(TM) (OMG (1) See Object Management Group.

OMG - Object Management Group
(TM)) first annual Software-Based Communications (SBC) Workshop to be held in Washington, DC, USA between 13-16 September 2004.

This new workshop is a logical expansion of the on-going standardization efforts related to software-defined radio (SDR See software defined radio. ). Initial OMG activity in this area was largely driven by the adoption of SDR in military radios; specifically the Pentagon's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program and its related specification of a Software Communications Architecture The Software Communications Architecture (SCA) is an open architecture framework that tells designers how elements of hardware and software are to operate in harmony within a software defined radio. SCA is a key element in the U.S. military's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS).  (SCA (Single Connector Attachment) An 80-pin plug and socket used to connect peripherals. With a SCSI drive, it rolls three cables (power, data channel and ID configuration) into one connector for fast installation and removal. ) - to support waveform portability and interoperability. However, SDR technology has matured very rapidly and is now being applied in a wide range of application areas including wireless network infrastructure (3G), global shipment tracking, and vehicular communications systems.

The four day workshop will explore concepts related to SBC, from today's military SDR programs to the cognitive handsets of the future. Workshop topics will include technical and business issues related to the architecture, design, and implementation of SBC systems across a wide range of processing platforms. The Workshop is open to all with an interest in SBC. Workshop participants will include representatives of technology providers, implementors (architects, modelers, developers, system integrators), standards bodies, and large end-user organizations (e.g. government agencies).

"SDR standards mean interoperability for the warfighter, and the impact of this technology is therefore huge. Eventually, this technology will find its way into the commercial telephony and radio markets as well. This new workshop, featuring the world's experts in software radio, is a unique forum for learning the ins and outs ins and outs

of this critical new technology," said Richard Soley, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, OMG.

"As a leading provider of distributed software infrastructure for SDR, PrismTech is particularly pleased to be sponsoring this ground-breaking event," said Steve Jennis, PrismTech's SVP of Corporate Development. "I'm sure that the OMG, through this event and its other SBC standardization efforts, will deliver real benefits to the rapidly growing SDR community."
