 OLD KENT CONTEMPLATES DEBT OFFERING
 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Old Kent Financial


Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: OKEN) announced today that it filed a shelf registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the future offering of one or more new issues of senior or subordinated debt securities in the maximum aggregate amount of $150 million. Old Kent Financial Corporation also announced that the shelf registration statement contemplates an initial new issue of up to $75 million of subordinated notes.
 The initial offering will be lead managed by Merrill Lynch & Co. and co-managed by Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corporation.
 Old Kent Financial Corporation is a bank holding company headquartered in Grand Rapids with 16 banks and 204 branch offices throughout Michigan and Illinois. Old Kent reported total assets of $8.8 billion on Dec. 31, 1991.
 A registration statement relating to these securities has been filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, but has not yet become effective. These securities may not be sold nor may offers to buy be accepted prior to the time the registration statement becomes effective.
