OKENA Announces StormTrack, Extending the Proactive Value of Behavior-Based Security; OKENA Extends StormSystem, Framework for Integrated Intrusion Prevention.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 2002

OKENA(TM), Inc., the leading developer of intrusion prevention software, today announced StormTrack, a new and significant third product in its StormSystem family. StormTrack leverages the power of the fundamental StormSystem agent, StormWatch, by utilizing both its rules and correlation engines to provide organizations with a detailed view of their host systems and applications. With StormSystem, OKENA customers can understand their live IT environments, analyze them and fine-tune them so the desktop and server hosts are proactively secured against known and unknown threats, while reducing the day-to-day cost of System and Security Administration.

Security best practices extol the importance of understanding the IT environment, configuring systems properly and disabling IT services not in use. Organizations are rarely able to enact these best practices because obtaining the required and critical information about an application's behavior on a host machine, in real-time, is difficult and costly. StormTrack fulfills the initial promise and vision of the StormSystem family of products by working in unison with StormWatch and StormFront to identify the applications running on the hosts, creating dynamic policies for those applications and then protecting those applications from malicious code attacks.

architecture to understand application behavior and enables these best practices through the following features and benefits:
-- Identifying key business applications installed on servers or desktops

-- Identifying applications and services that are installed but never run

-- Identifying undesired or 'rogue' applications

-- Identifying hosts that are not currently protected by StormWatch agents, VPN clients or anti-virus

-- Mitigating the above issues using proactive behavior enforcement via the StormSystem product family

"Proactive security has a compelling value proposition, but OKENA, with StormSystem, has extended the concept and has made the value demonstrable," said Charles Kolodgy, research manager, Internet Security at IDC. "Whereas StormWatch and StormFront give organizations the tools required for proactive security, StormTrack provides the whole organization with information on how the IT environment is utilized. The StormSystem framework not only provides the enterprise with security, but also business flow information that can be utilized to reduce IT expenses."

OKENA's StormSystem family of products -- StormTrack, StormWatch and StormFront -- dramatically reduce the costs and difficulty of maintaining security best practices at their highest level. Unlike many of the security "suites" of products in the market that are not built on one common architecture, the StormSystem family has one common architecture allowing the agents to share log files and utilize StormWatch's rules and correlation engines.

"OKENA's ability to deliver all the benefits of StormSystem -- intrusion prevention, security policy fine-tuning, and the live application analysis -- from one easy-to-manage agent is refreshing," said Bill Spernow, CISSP, Chief Information Security Officer at the Georgia Student Finance Commission. "These new developments within StormSystem make for more efficient security technology deployments, giving us new levels of assurance and putting us way ahead of the security curve."

"With StormSystem, we promised a true system of products that interoperate seamlessly and provide real value to the customer. Now we have delivered," said Shaun McConnon, CEO of OKENA. "The common underlying agent that our three products share is an architectural and conceptual breakthrough for gathering application intelligence on desktops and servers. This powerful, integrated approach to security is not only proactive and preventive, but also enables major reductions in an organization's operational costs."
