OIS OPTICAL IMAGING SYSTEMS, INC. SIGNS PRODUCTION AGREEMENT
TROY, Mich., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- OIS Optical Imaging Systems, Inc. (OTC: OVON) announced today that it has signed a production agreement for the delivery of advanced active matrix liquid crystal displays (AMLCDs).
Under the agreement announced today, OIS is to manufacture and deliver production quantities of displays to Allied-Signal Inc. (NYSE: ALD). The displays will be integrated into instruments used in commercial applications. Displays will be manufactured and delivered over a 32-month period beginning in February 1993 for an aggregate purchase price of $7.6 million.
This is the second such agreement OIS has announced this month to supply its displays to commercial markets. The first agreement announced on Nov. 5, was valued at $3.1 million over 20 months with deliveries beginning in February 1993. OIS has now been awarded a total of $10.7 million for the delivery of its standard products between the two agreements.
OIS is the only American producer of active matrix liquid crystal displays. OIS manufactures displays for a wide range of military, avionic and commercial applications. OIS' high-technology AMLCDs have many advantages over the cathode ray and electro-mechanical displays currently used in aircraft. OIS displays offer exceptional image quality and superior integration with modern navigation and control systems, while weighing less and occupying far less space than conventional displays.
OIS, which was founded in 1984, is a publicly traded affiliate of Guardian Industries Corp., a Michigan-based global manufacturer of flat glass and glass products. In November 1991, Guardian invested $10.5 million in OIS. Guardian's investment is a reflection of its belief that OIS' display technology has great potential in the military, avionic and automotive fields, and that this small American company has the potential to compete effectively against the Japanese and European industrial giants that are active in this field.
