OHIO POWER TO REDEEM BONDS

 CANTON, Ohio, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Ohio Power Company today announced that it will redeem two outstanding series of first mortgage bonds on April 15, 1993.
 9-1/4 Percent Series Due 2006
 The company will redeem on April 15, 1993 the entire then-to-be outstanding $79,200,000 principal amount of the 9-1/4 percent series due 2006 not heretofore called for redemption at 103.60 percent of the principal amount of the bonds, to be paid upon presentment.
 Interest from March 1 to the date of redemption will be paid on presentment of the bonds.
 This redemption is in accordance with the terms of the mortgage under which the bonds were issued. The mortgage permits the company to redeem the bonds prior to maturity.
 Transfer books for this series will be closed today. The notice of redemption is expected to be mailed today to holders of record.
 Chemical Bank, N.Y., is the redemption agent and trustee.
 9-1/4 Percent Series Due 2002
 The company will redeem on April 15, 1993, the entire then-to-be outstanding $57,500,000 principal amount of the 9-1/4 percent series due 2002 not previously called for redemption at 103.12 percent of the principal amount of the bonds together with accrued interest to the date of redemption, to be paid upon presentment.
 Interest from April 1 to the date of redemption will be paid on presentment of the bonds.
 Transfer books for this series will be closed today. The notice of redemption is expected to be mailed today to holders of record.
 This redemption is in accordance with the terms of the mortgage under which the bonds were issued. The mortgage permits the company to redeem the bonds prior to maturity.
 The Chase Manhattan Bank (National Association), N.Y., is the redemption agent and trustee.
