Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  school officials said Wednesday Wednesday: see week.  that they are sifting through lists of candidates in search of an interim superintendent as well as a permanent successor to Superintendent Tate Parker, who was placed on administrative leave last week.

Parker, the former superintendent in Murrieta, was hired Jan. 2 for $108,000 a year after the board conducted a months-long, $9,000 search.

Walker said the interim superintendent might become a candidate for the permanent job, although temporary assignments traditionally are filled by retired administrators. Walker said he hoped that qualified administrators in the school district would apply for the permanent position.

On Tuesday, the board also released Ruth Lander from her $88,500-year contract as head of personnel services. Lander formerly worked with Parker in Murrieta, and was scheduled to start work July 1.

The personnel job instead will be filled by Cary Dritz, human resource director for the Ventura County Superintendent of Schools Office.
