OFFICIALS HEAD OVER HEELS ABOUT AQUATICS CENTER OPENING CEREMONY FOR $9 MILLION FACILITY SET FOR SATURDAY.

CANYON COUNTRY - City Manager Ken Pulskamp is diving into the deep end Saturday when he and other city dignitaries cut the ribbon on the new aquatics center.

``We are ecstatic about this facility and the wonderful opportunities it provides to our community,'' Pulskamp said. ``We can host regional and state swim, dive and water polo water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. The $9 million complex includes three swimming pools: a 50-meter Olympic-size pool, a 25-meter dive pool and a family recreational pool that includes a 160-foot-tall red slide and water play equipment.

 begin at 10 a.m. and the public is invited to attend. Mayor Cameron Smyth Cameron Smyth is a Republican who has represented Califoria's 38th Assembly district since December of 2006. He succeeded Keith Richman who was term limited.

Taking the plunge after the ribbon-cutting will be a variety of community leaders participating in the ``Big Cheese'' race, in which competitors wearing cheese heads paddle rafts across the pool and back. Among those donning swim suits and cheddar chapeaus will be Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  sheriff's Capt. Patti Minutello, Hart High School District Superintendent Bob Lee and City Council members Laurene Weste and Marsha McLean.

Diving and synchronized swimming exhibitions will also be held. Guests at the grand opening will be treated to a commemorative gift, refreshments and the opportunity to swim free in any of the three pools.
