OFFICIAL AIRLINE GUIDES REPORTS FLIGHT ACTIVITY FOR SEPTEMBER

OAK BROOK, Ill., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Official Airline Guides, the world's largest provider of scheduled flight information, gave a preview of daily departing flight activity for September at several airports worldwide. The numbers released indicate that flight activity will rise at airports in Europe and the Asia/Pacific region and will be down in the United States.
Coming out of a period of mixed activity, the European airports surveyed overall report increases in flight activity for September. Amsterdam will show the largest increase logging 125 more average daily flights this September over the same period last year. London's Heathrow airport also reports a large increase rising from 884 average daily flights in August 1992 to 1,001 average daily flights in August 1993. Frankfurt (613 to 687), Stansted (71 to 93), Madrid (293 to 325) and Paris' DeGaulle (734 to 758) airports also report increases. European airports reporting slight declines for September are London's Gatwick (297 to 296) and Paris' Orly (520 to 506) airports.
Airports surveyed in the Asia/Pacific region continue to experience increases in airport flight activity. In September 1993, seven of the eight airports will show increases over September 1992. Those airports include: Beijing (80 to 121), Hong Kong (152 to 171), Seoul (207 to 232), Singapore (181 to 197), Taipei's Chiang Kai Shek (84 to 97) and Sung Shan (100 to 143), and Tokyo's Haneda (358 to 265). Tokyo's Narita airport was the only Asia/Pacific airport this month to report a slight decline, falling from 187 to 175 average daily flights.
Airports in the U.S. will all show declines in daily flight activity in September. O'Hare, Newark, Los Angeles and LaGuardia report the most dramatic decreases with O'Hare dropping 361 average daily flights, Newark 216, Los Angeles 128 and LaGuardia 126. New York's Kennedy and Westchester airports both report smaller decreases (632 to 594 and 106 to 81 respectively) in September 1993 over the same period last year.
