, a 32-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department The Ventura County Sheriff's Department (VCSD) provides law enforcement for the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, California, USA, as well as several cities within the county. ``Mike De Los Santos is one of the most talented law enforcement officers I have ever had the privilege of working with,'' said Thousand Oaks Mayor Dennis Gillette, a former police chief in the city.

In his new assignment, De Los Santos will handle community concerns and quality-of-life issues from the unit's headquarters, a police resource center in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza is a performing arts and administrative center located in Thousand Oaks, California. It was built in 1994 on the former site of "Jungleland" at a cost of $63.8 million. .

The program is designed to bring community police services closer to residents, offering a resource center where people can ask questions, get information and talk to police about problems that concern them.

De Los Santos has been a member of the sheriff's SWAT team for 25 years and was the supervisor of the Thousand Oaks Police Department's Special Enforcement Unit handling gang problems in the city for 12 years.

``He has done an excellent job commanding the gang unit,'' said Dennis Carpenter, chief of the Thousand Oaks Police Department, which operates under contract with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

He said De Los Santos' experience will help him deal with a wide variety of problems in the community, including code enforcement Code Enforcement is the act of enforcing a set of s, principles, or laws (especially written ones) and insuring observance of a system of norms or customs. He knows all the players and he'll be working with managers of the various departments around City Hall.''

De Los Santos said he looks forward to working with Thousand Oaks residents on problems facing the community.

``This unit involves the city, the police and the community all working together,'' he said.
