ODETICS WITHDRAWS OBJECTIONS TO ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT; PLEDGES FULL SUPPORT FOR NEW DISNEYLAND RESORT

ANAHEIM, Calif., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- In a statement made following last night's Anaheim City Council meeting, Joel Slutzky, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Odetics (AMEX: OA, OB) withdrew the company's objections to the Environmental Impact Report for the Disneyland expansion plan, and pledged full support for the proposed Disneyland Resort. The statement followed Walt Disney Co.'s announcement that it deleted from its expansion plans the possible location of a multistory parking garage adjacent to the 14 acres of Odetics-owned property located north of Freedman Way in Anaheim.
"We have always been supportive of Disney's expansion plans, but were opposed to the construction of a multistory parking structure on the property north of Freedman Way," said Slutzky. "With this decision behind us, we can now fully support Disney and the City of Anaheim in their efforts to bolster the local economy." Odetics employs more than 550 people in Anaheim. Slutzky cited potential product quality problems as the reason for the company's opposition to the building of a parking structure next to its facility. The company manufactures very sensitive space-qualified data recorders in the building located adjacent to the property in question.
Odetics manufactures automated tape libraries, data recorders and other information automation products. The company was founded in 1969 to design and produce high-reliability space tape recorders. Today, however, Odetics operating units address commercial as well as government markets.
