ODD'S-N-END'S REPORTS 2ND QUARTER LOSS

BUFFALO, N.Y., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- ODD'S-n-END'S, Inc. (NASDAQ: ODDE), a Buffalo, N.Y., based close-out retailer, today reported record sales and a loss for the second quarter ended July 31, 1993. Sales rose 40 percent to $7,738,000 compared to $5,542,000 during the second quarter of 1992. The company incurred a loss of $134,000 or $.03 per share (primary and fully diluted) compared to net income of $128,000 or $.03 per share (primary and fully diluted) for the comparable prior period. Comparable same store sales (stores open more than two years, after taking into consideration expanded stores) for the quarter and six months ended July 31, 1993, increased by 3.47 percent and 1.0 percent, respectively.
During the first six months of 1993, sales rose 42 percent to $13,547,000 compared to $9,529,000 for the first six months of 1992. The company incurred a net loss of $458,000 for the six months ended July 31, 1993, compared to net income of $271,000 for the comparable period in 1992.
Commenting on the company's performance, President John H. Clark stated, "The second quarter results reflect a one-time charge to earnings of approximately $175,000 in store opening expenses. These costs combined with weaker than expected store sales contributed to the resulting loss for the quarter."
During the second quarter, the company opened seven locations in western and central New York. The company also relocated one store and expanded another in the Metro Buffalo area. During the third quarter, two additional stores are scheduled to open and another will be relocated.
