OCE-OFFICE SYSTEMS FILES DECLARATORY JUDGMENT ACTION AGAINST EASTMAN KODAK

 OCE-OFFICE SYSTEMS FILES DECLARATORY
 JUDGMENT ACTION AGAINST EASTMAN KODAK
CHICAGO, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Oce-Office Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of Oce-van der Grinten N.V., has filed a declaratory judgment action against Eastman Kodak Co. (NYSE: EK) in the U.S. District Court in Chicago.
The declaratory judgment seeks to have the court confirm that an Oce copier for producing duplex copies from duplex originals does not infringe upon a Kodak patent which expires in February 1996.
The Oce machine in question is the Oce 2500, a high-speed plain paper office copier marketed in the United States and throughout the world. The Oce copier performs duplex-duplex copying according to a proprietary technique covered by a U.S. patent issued to Oce. The U.S. sales of this product represented less than 2 percent of Oce's consolidated worldwide revenues during Oce's fiscal year ended Nov. 30, 1991.
The declaratory judgment action has been filed in order to remove any doubt that might exist with respect to Oce's position in this matter in the United States. Oce expects a favorable outcome to the suit and will continue to market the machine in the United States. However, should the result be adverse to Oce, it might be required to pay royalties to Eastman Kodak. Final resolution of the matter may take several years.
Oce-van der Grinten N.V., headquartered in the Netherlands, and its subsidiaries, are leading worldwide suppliers of advanced products and services for the presentation of information on paper. The Oce 2500 copier has been developed and is being manufactured by Oce in the Netherlands and is patented worldwide. Oce-Office Systems, Inc. is headquartered in Chicago and has more than 30 branch offices nationwide.
Oce products include copiers and copying supplies for office systems and design engineering, plotter systems and materials for design engineering, laser printing systems and photosensitive materials and graphic films.
