He served in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II, from April 1942 to October 1945. He was a printer and commercial fisherman. He is survived by his wife; two sons, John McIver of Eugene and Alan Votava of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; a daughter, Carol Altepeter of Brainerd, Minn.; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
