Clara Bates

Clara Belle Jessie Bates of Eugene died May 13 of age-related causes at age 87. At her request, no service is planned.

She was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Emory and Maude Woodworth Mitchell. She married Woodrow Gruber on July 27, 1941, and he later died. She married Merle Bates on Aug. 6, 1949, in Reno, Nev. He died Feb. 3, 1999.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Jack Gruber of Ocean Shores, Wash.; a daughter, Michelle Raykovich of Eugene; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Barbara Babcock, died previously.

Lee Bean

The graveside funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene for Lee Bean of Eugene. She died May 15 of congestive heart failure at age 76.

She was born July 11, 1930, in El Dorado, Okla., to John and Leatha Collett Richeson. She married Robert Bean on Oct. 6, 1951, in Eugene.

She worked as store manager of Whiltshire Photography for five years and of Dot Dotson for 25 years. She was a high school graduate.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rodney of Nixa, Mo., and Cary of Eugene; a daughter, Cintha Ball of Colorado; two sisters, Edith Walker of Portland and Mickie Davis of Medford; and four grand- children.

Joan Borrevik

Joan L. Borrevik of Eugene died May 17 of age-related causes at age 75. No service is planned.

She was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Kewanee, Ill., to Howard and Lucille Lisenbee Jones. She married Wallace Borrevik in April 1983 in Reedsport. He died in 1989.

She had owned a restaurant and a tavern, and worked in motel maintenance.

Survivors include two sons, James West Jr. of Kenai, Alaska, and Gary West; two sisters, Janice Davis of Oquawka, Ill., and Patricia McIvey of Little York, Ill.; three brothers, Loren Jones and Michael Jones, both of Eugene, and Stephen Jones, also of Oquawka; and two grandchildren.

Catherine Cheney

Catherine L. Cheney of Salem, formerly of Eugene, died May 13 of age-related causes at age 102. A memorial service was held May 17 at Willamette Lutheran Retirement Center in Salem.

She was born Nov. 13, 1904, in Ogden, Iowa, to Ralph and Katie Schnoor Huntley. She married Alvin Cheney in Corvallis on July 2, 1932. He died in 2001.

She was an artist and oil painter.

Entombment will be in Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Arrangements by Rest-Haven Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Richard Clark

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. June 16 at Azalea Lanes bowling alley in Brookings for Richard Lee "Dick" Clark of Springfield. He died May 5 of cancer at age 70.

He was born May 20, 1936, in San Jose, Calif., to Archie and Madge Lamb Clark. He and his wife, Linda, were married in 1969.

Clark graduated from Willow Glen High School in San Jose in 1955. He served in the Army in Korea, then served as a reserve officer for the Los Gatos, Calif., police department. He next worked for Southern Pacific Railroad in Eugene as a special agent and engineer, retiring in 2001.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Candace Barrios of San Jose; a son, Richard II of San Jose; and 11 grandchildren.

Daniel Miller

Daniel James "Danny" Miller of Eugene died May 12 at age 50. The family chose not to list the cause of death. No service is planned.

He was born Nov. 12, 1956, in Fort Campbell, Ky., to Bill and Bobbye Helms Miller. He had a high school education.

Survivors include three brothers, John and Harold of Eugene and Mike of San Diego; and a sister, Rhonda Shoop of Springfield.

Loretta Ellison

SPRINGFIELD - A wake will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at 1157 N. 33rd St. in Springfield for Loretta Ellison of Springfield. She died May 13 of age-related causes at age 71.

Ellison was born May 20, 1935, in Elwood, Utah. She worked for the Spring- field School District.

Survivors include two sons, Jack of Pleasant Hill and Elmer of Raytown, Mo.; a daughter, Connie Groshong of Spring- ield; a brother, Larry Payne of Puyallup, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

A grandson, Chris Ellison, died previously.

Halvin Henderson

JUNCTION CITY - Halvin Frank Henderson of Junction City died May 13 of age-related causes at age 82. No service is planned.

He was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Junction City. He married Dorothy Bennett in 1947, and they later divorced. He married Betty Paul in January 1957, and she later died.

He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946.

Survivors include two daughters, Janie Thoele of Lynnwood, Wash., and Nancy Henderson of Texas; two sons, Tom of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Larry of the Philippines; a stepson, Richard Paul of Silver Springs, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Gloria Albright of Billings, Mont.; two sisters, Edna LeBleu of Eugene and Faye Zavosky of Mapleton; two brothers, Elmer and Ray of Junction City; and several grandchildren.

Ronald Hora

A celebration of life will be at 3:30 p.m. June 8 at the Bend Elks lodge for Ronald P. "Ron" Hora of Bend, formerly of Crow. He died March 4 of congestive heart failure at age 66.

He was born Feb. 11, 1941, in Iowa to Ronald and Betty Hora. He married Jeanne Fessler on Nov. 1, 2001, in Portland.

Hora retired from State Farm Insurance after 30 years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rhonda Honsowetz of Eugene; a son, Ryan of Sammamish, Wash.; three sisters, Judith Bigham of Las Vegas, Sandy Flath of Riverside, Calif., and Jackie Triebold of Duck Creek Village, Utah; and two grandchildren.

Eileen Hostetler

SPRINGFIELD - Eileen Hostetler of Springfield died May 15 of age-related causes at age 88. No service is planned.

She was born March 5, 1919, in Indiana to Ross and Clara Cohagan. She married Raymond Hostetler in 1955 in Fort Wayne, Ind.

She worked in various occupations, retiring from General Electric in 1981.

Survivors include a son, Mike of Eugene, and a grandchild. Her husband died in 2000.

Irene Maas

Irene Minnie Maas of Eugene died May 12 of age-related causes at age 88. No service is planned.

She was born July 31, 1918, in Windom, Kan., to Otto and Minnie Swanson Borg. She married William Maas in 1946 in Portland.

She was a beautician and beauty shop owner.

Survivors include a sister, Emily Coffman of Eugene; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband and two daughters, Judy Maas and Sharon Shubert, died previously.

Joyce Miller

A private service is planned for Joyce Fae Miller of Eugene, who died May 14 of age-related causes at age 88.

She was born in Aurora, S.D., on Feb. 3, 1919, to Albert and Edith Evans Hosbrook. She married Jon- athan Miller on May 28, 1938, in Fessender, N.D.

She graduated from high school in Heaton, N.D. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband and a sister, Leta Mason of Hall, Mont.

Stanley Osburn

A memorial service will be held later for Stanley Allen Osburn of Cottage Grove, who died May 2 of cancer at age 50.

He was born July 11, 1956, in Springfield to Pat and Dessa Osburn.

He worked as an auto mechanic and served in the Marine Corps. He had a high school education.

He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Alice Waggoner Osburn; his mother; a daughter, Amber Dougan of Cottage Grove; a stepson, Brandon Waggoner of Cottage Grove; four brothers, Lynn and Daniel, both of Cottage Grove, Jerry of Creswell and Ronald of Idaho; three sisters, Julie Lemarr, Mary Frazier and Joyce Osburn, all of Washington; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements by Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service of Springfield. Burial will be in Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove.

Eva Shoemaker

Eva Mae Shoemaker of Eugene died May 12 of age-related causes at age 100. No service is planned.

She was born on Feb. 17, 1907, in Pierre, S.D., to Henry and Minnie Armstrong Schram. She married Arthur Shoemaker on Dec. 7, 1924, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He died in 1974.

She was a homemaker and seamstress. During World War II, she worked wiring naval guns in Sunnyvale, Calif.

Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Shoemaker of Eugene and Marlys Handley of San Jose, Calif.; a son, Gerard of Dubois, Wyo.; two siblings, Cecil Pfeiffer of Sioux Falls and Mavis Zea, of Wilmington, N.C.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marian Thompson

SPRINGFIELD - A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 21, at Trinity Baptist Church in Springfield for Marian Christine Thompson of Spring- field. She died May 15 of age-related causes at age 79.

She was born May 14, 1928, in Trenton, Mo., to Thomas and Christine Spencer Ralston. She married Delbert Thompson on June 27, 1947, in Lane County. They divorced in 1970.

She had a high school education and worked as a telephone operator.

Survivors include four sons, Melvin and Larry of Eugene, Michael of The Dalles, and Curtis of Welches; a daughter, Susan Leary, of Kaneohe, Hawaii; a brother, Tom Adams of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Marlene Nichol of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Remembrances to the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels program or the Eugene Mission. Arrangements by Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield.

Clarification

Carl William Keller of Eugene died May 11 of a glioblastoma.

He was 50.

He married Tami ReNaye Dingle in Eugene on Dec. 14, 2006.

No service is planned. Arrangements by England's Eugene Memorial Chapel. Remembrances to Greenhill Humane Society or Sacred Heart Hospice.
